The best part about winter in Hastings County, is that we actually have snow! It doesn't matter what outdoor or winter activity you are into, there is something for everyone.
Marmora SnoFest runs February 10 – 12, 2017, drawing on the adventurous tradition of sled dog racing, Marmora SnoFest celebrates a love of dogs, sport and community. SnoFest continues to be a destination for stellar sled dog racing and skijoring, attracting world-class competitors from Canada and beyond, and offers programming to entertain the whole family.
Maynooth Winter Farmers Market (Sat. February 11 Sat. March 11 and Sat. April 8) at the Hastings Highlands Community Centre, located at 33011 Hwy 62 in Maynooth. The market is open from 10AM to 4PM in the Hastings Highlands gymnasium.
Keep cozy indoors with a featured TIFF film at the Bancroft Village Playhouse presented by The North of 7 Film Fest. On February 14th at 4:15pm and 7:00pm catch “Southside With You” playing, and on March 14th at 4:15pm and 7:00pm view “Manchester by the Sea”.
Tweed Winter Carnival is on February 17 - 19, 2017. This annual event offers a winter wonderland of family-friendly winter activities throughout Tweed, ON. Events kick-off on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6:00pm for the Torchlight Parade, followed by a bonfire and S’mores at the Ball Diamond Picnic Shelter. Whether it’s free skating at the Tweed Arena or the scavenger hunt at the Fairground, and seeing the grand finale of fireworks on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 8:30pm – you’ll get a full winter experience taking part in the festivities of the weekend!
Ever try ice climbing? Come out for a climb at the Southern Ontario Ice Climbing Festival from February 24th to 26th. The festival is a weekend of ice climing at Diamond Lake. You can register for a clinic, demo some new toys or check out the climbing in surrounding areas. Afterwards, join everyone at the Arlington for more fun and games. The festival has loads of prizes from sponsors to giveaway and an exciting lineup for the evening of live entertainment.
Winter Camping & Snowshoeing with Cruising Canoes
Cruising Canoes offers two-day, one night winter camping experiences. Winter tents equipped with a wood stove are supplied and everyone is provided with a cot and a winter sleeping bag, so there are no worries about being cold. Cruising Canoes will provide quality snowshoes and poles for everyone, and takes you along trails, breaking through the fresh snow. After enjoying a delicious meal cooked on a portable fireplace, enjoy a big, warm campfire. Winter Camping Adventures are scheduled on February 4 – 5, March 4 – 5, and a special Family Day Weekend Winter Camping Adventure that is kid friendly from February 17 - 20.
Looking for an activity to fill an afternoon/evening? Enjoy a mini-snowshoe adventure! Cruising Canoes provides transportation to the set destination, and once on location they will provide you with snowshoes and headlamps. You’ll be snowshoeing for approximately one to one and a half hours, and will enjoy a hot apple cider on the way back. These Mini Snowshoe Adventures are scheduled most weeks in February, March and ending in April on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
