Warden & Council

 



Hastings County Council is made up of the Heads of Council of its fourteen member municipalities. County Council meets monthly to receive reports from standing committees and make decisions on the delivery of services to its residents. Human services delivered through the County include: Long-term care, Emergency Services and Social Services. The Chief Administrative Officer works closely with the Warden and Council to ensure that all programs approved by County Council are implemented.

Role of the Warden

The Warden of the County is elected by his peers on County Council for a term of up to two years. The Warden of the County represents and supports County Council, declaring its will and implicitly obeying its decisions in all things.

Committee Structure


County Council operates through a standing committee system. County Council traditionally meets the last Thursday of each month with Open Session starting at 10:00 a.m.

Standing Committees of Council include:

Finance, Property and Personnel – meet monthly on the third Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
Planning and Development – meet monthly on the second Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
Hastings/Quinte Social Services Committee – meet monthly on the second Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
Hastings/Quinte Emergency Services – meet monthly on the second Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Hastings/Quinte Long-Term Care Committee – meet monthly on the second Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
Joint Provincial Offences Board – meet as required
9-1-1 Sub –Committee – meet as required
Economic Development – meet monthly on the third Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
Ontarians with Disabilities – meet as required

EOWC Inc.



EASTERN ONTARIO WARDENS’ CAUCUS Inc.

The County of Hastings is a member of Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus Inc.(EOWC), and this year Warden Emond was elected chair of the Caucus.  This group which consists of 11 counties and the single tier municipalities of the City of Kawartha Lakes and Prince Edward County, represents some 900,000 property taxpayers across the region. The Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus is an advocate for Eastern Ontario in an effort to bring about positive change in the communities by making coordinated recommendations to both the Provincial and Federal governments. The CAO and Warden are both active members of this group and participate on committees and boards that work toward improvements in the development and improvement of the communities of Eastern Ontario.
