Social Housing



The goal of the Hastings County Housing Programs Branch is to provide safe, modest and affordable housing for low income households in Hastings County.

Our units are located in Bancroft, Belleville, Deseronto, Madoc, Marmora, Stirling, Quinte West (Trenton and Frankford Wards) and Tweed.

We directly own and manage 1,379 social housing units, 213 rent supplement units and administer 855 non-profit units owned by 15 different non-profit housing and cooperative corporations.

The Hastings County Housing Programs Branch administers the Social Housing Registry. This list provides one, centralized waiting list for social housing in Hastings County.

We are also responsible for encouraging the creation and development of new affordable housing in Hastings County. This includes development of non-profit housing, affordable rental housing and affordable housing for purchase.

FAQ's


How Do I Apply?
To apply for Social Housing, please contact the Intake Access Center (IAC) at 613-771-9630 or toll free at 1-866-414-0300. A live attendant will complete an application with you over the phone. Our regular hours of operation are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Please note, you must have a valid social insurance number to apply through the IAC. Alternatively, you may apply on-line (On Line Application for Social Housing) or print a paper application (Printable Housing Application). You may also request that a paper application to be mailed to you by contacting the Intake Access Center or the Housing Programs Branch.
 
How Do I Apply For Emergency Housing?
Unfortunately, we are not set up to supply emergency housing. Please call Ontario Works, Intake Access Centre 613-771-9630 or toll free, 1-866-414-0300 after hours call Salvation Army (613) 968-6834 or toll free at 1-866-414-0300
 
Where Am I On The Waiting List?
This depends on the number of bedrooms required, location preference and vacancy turnover rate. This means there is no specific number on our waiting list which we can give you, nor can we predict how long you will have to wait.
 
How Much Rent Do I Have To Pay?
Rent is based upon approximately 30% of your total gross household income. Persons on fixed income such as Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Plan pay according to Provincially Mandated Scales.
