TripAdvisor: Why It Matters to Your Tourism Business

As technology advances, the ways in which we communicate grow and the opportunities to connect with visitors becomes endless. People are looking to the Internet to get travel information and read what their peers have to say about destinations, attractions and experiences. Word of mouth marketing is at its all time high, and its more than ever a critical time to make sure your business is a part of the conversation.

Why TripAdvisor? About 65% of searches begin on mobile phones and continue on computers - almost every person in the world owns a cell phone, meaning most tourists are able to explore, plan and make decisions wherever and whenever they want. With TripAdvisor, users have downloaded TripAdvisor apps more than 370 million times. In addition, nearly 50% of users visited TripAdvisor via tablet and phone, and the company continues to see industry-leading uptick and engagement on mobile devices.

Over the past two months, Hastings County partnered with the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board to facilitate a series of TripAdvisor workshops across the region that were tailored to get tourism-related businesses listed on TripAdvisor and learn how to maximise their listing. A total of five workshops were hosted in Bancroft, Belleville, Quinte West and Picton. Over 30 businesses and attractions were successfully listed and had an opportunity to troubleshoot any issues they had with updating their listing and accessing free marketing tools.
