Fall is here! Even though the weather makes it still feel like Summer, Fall began today. While some may start to worry that the cold Winter season is coming, the Fall season brings many benefits to our area.
Take for example the Fall colours. It's worth the drive, bike ride or hike around Hastings County over the next few weeks to enjoy the colours. If you want to see a status report, check this out.
Another cool experience is an Elk Tour through the Bancroft Nature Discovery Tours. This is a guided interpretive tour and registration is through the Bancroft & District Chamber of Commerce.
There's also the Hilly Hundred. Taking place on October 1, the Hastings Highlands Hilly Hundred is billed as "The Toughest Century Ride" in Ontario. They say "it will leave you in awe as it weaves its way through the colourful hardwood forests, lakes and hills and valleys of the Canadian Shield".
Speaking of the Canadian Shield, how about schedule a visit to Hastings County's first winery. Potter Settlement Artisan Winery is situated just north of Tweed on the very edge of the Canadian Shield. Owner Sandor Johnson says that the highly mineral terroir and organically-grown grapes offer a unique selection of delicious and intensely flavourful wines. Since Sandor is still busy constructing several features, it's best if you call ahead to make sure someone is there to greet you and offer a tasting.
What goes well with locally produced wine? Local food does. Checkout the new Harvest Hastings website where they promote what is grown locally, who is growing it and where to buy. There are several Farmers' Markets in the County too.
The preceding is just a small sampling. Let us know some things you like to do in the Fall around Hastings County.
